Letter from the Director
Welcome to Radcliffe Creek School, where students learn with all their senses. In the kitchen, students feast on curry and rice as they taste the culture of ancient India. The cool ooze of mud through the fingers of a student in Reading Class will help make connections in the brain the next time the student needs to make the sound of the letter “M”.
In a Discovery Room, a student adjusts the French beret on the top of her head during a roundtable discussion of Europe during WWII. Down the hall, students are learning math facts by making an impression through song and dance.
In a small Language Arts class, a student brainstorms the outline of a research paper on his laptop. He uses software specifically designed for those students who struggle with written expression in order to organize his wonderfully creative thoughts into a sequential, well-written product. Providing this experience is why Radcliffe exists.
There are bright and creative children who painfully struggle to learn in a conventional educational setting. The foundation of the school’s program is the premise that every child can succeed. Given the right tools and strategies, children with learning differences can understand their unique learning styles and come to know their strengths, gifts and talents.
Radcliffe Creek School is more than bricks and mortar, devoted staff, technology and resources. It is a collective belief in the power of every child’s mind. It is a place where the individuality of learning is celebrated, where possibilities are seen and futures are created.
I hope the pages in this website will demonstrate our belief that learning is not just about reading, math, language arts, science and social studies. It is about learning strengths, discovering new interests and obtaining strategies to overcome specific learning differences. It is gaining respect for being different and for trying alternative approaches. Ultimately, it is about developing resilience and acquiring self-respect.
