Director of Special Education

Position Overview
Radcliffe Creek School, a K–8 school serving bright students with language-based learning differences, is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Special Education Learning Specialist. This role is central to ensuring that each student receives a personalized, strengths-based, diagnostic-prescriptive educational experience aligned with our mission to provide a dynamic learning environment for students who benefit from individualized, multisensory instruction.
The Learning Specialist works closely with faculty, families, and outside professionals to support student learning, integrate related services, facilitate communication around public school placements and IEP development, monitor student progress, coach teachers, and strengthen key school programs, including admissions and student transition.
This role also offers the exciting opportunity and responsibility to help design and refine the systems that support our work, including progress monitoring and data collection, the development of individualized learning plans, alignment with IEP goals, and the creation of clear, cohesive structures that ensure consistency, accountability, and strong student outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities
Student Support & Programming
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized learning plans for students
- Assess student strengths and areas of need to inform instructional strategies
- Collaborate with teachers to embed accommodations and executive functioning supports within the classroom
- Partner with related service providers (OT, SLP, counseling) to support the whole child
- Support the development and implementation of behavior and learning plans
- Oversee progress monitoring systems, data collection, and NWEA MAP testing to inform instructional decisions
Literacy Instruction
- Provide targeted literacy instruction using an Orton-Gillingham approach
- Support faculty in implementing evidence-based, multisensory literacy and math practices
- Use data to guide instruction and monitor student progress
Teacher Coaching & Professional Support
- Serve as a thought partner to teachers in supporting diverse learners
- Model instructional strategies and support differentiated, multisensory teaching
- Lead or support professional development related to learning differences and executive functioning
Assessment & Admissions
- Conduct and interpret educational assessments for current and prospective students
- Collaborate with the admissions team to evaluate student fit and readiness
- Screen prospective students to determine academic needs
- Communicate assessment findings clearly to families and staff
Transition Program Development
- Support the design and growth of a comprehensive transition program for 8th-grade students
- Collaborate with families, schools, and outside professionals to support successful transitions
- Provide documentation and guidance to inform placement decisions
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with families as a trusted resource in understanding their child's learning profile
- Interpret outside evaluations and share key insights with instructional teams
- Participate in student support meetings, admissions discussions, and transition planning
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education or a related field
- Experience working with students with language-based learning differences (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD, executive functioning challenges)
- Training and experience in educational assessment preferred
- Knowledge of multisensory instructional approaches (Orton-Gillingham experience preferred)
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues

Science/Social Studies (Discovery) Teacher
Radcliffe Creek School, the only school on the Eastern Shore serving bright students with language-based learning differences in K–8, is seeking a creative, energetic, and innovative Science/Social Studies (Discovery) Teacher to lead one of the most dynamic and unique parts of our program.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to design and grow a hands-on, project-based program that brings science and social studies to life for students who learn best through doing, creating, and experiencing.

Position Overview
The Science/Social Studies (Discovery) Teacher leads a multi-sensory, project-based class that integrates science and social studies through engaging, six-week thematic rotations. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives in an active, flexible environment and is passionate about experiential learning.
The Science/Social Studies (Discovery) Teacher has the exciting opportunity and challenge to design meaningful learning experiences grounded in clear goals and standards, while also creating innovative, hands-on projects that allow students to explore, build, collaborate, and demonstrate understanding in authentic ways. This position offers a high degree of autonomy to shape units, select materials, and develop culminating projects that spark curiosity and deepen engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement interdisciplinary Science/Social Studies (Discovery) units in six-week rotations

- Create engaging culminating projects that allow students to apply and demonstrate learning

PE Teacher

Position Overview
At Radcliffe Creek School, physical education is more than movement — it is a critical space where students build confidence, develop self-regulation, and learn how to work with and alongside others. The PE Teacher will create engaging, developmentally appropriate experiences for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade that emphasize skill-building, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Lessons should be thoughtfully differentiated to meet a wide range of learning profiles, ensuring that every student feels successful, included, and challenged. The ideal candidate understands how to break down skills, scaffold instruction, and adapt activities so that all learners can participate meaningfully.
Our campus and our No Child Left Inside (NCLI) program provide an incredible opportunity to take learning beyond the traditional gym space. The PE Teacher will regularly incorporate outdoor education, using our nine-acre campus and the natural beauty of the Eastern Shore to inspire movement, exploration, and play. Whether through cooperative games, nature-based fitness challenges, or team-building initiatives, students are encouraged to connect physical activity with joy, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
This role also plays an important part in shaping school culture. The PE Teacher models and explicitly teaches sportsmanship, collaboration, and perseverance, helping students navigate both success and challenge with integrity. They partner closely with classroom teachers, the RISE team, and school leadership to support students' social-emotional growth, reinforce positive behaviors, and contribute to a cohesive, supportive school environment.
