Why Swings Matter for Our Students
For years, our students have been asking for swings on our playground. This February 12th, we have the opportunity to make their dream a reality—and in doing so, provide essential developmental support for every child at Radcliffe Creek School.
Swings aren't just about fun and recess (though those are important too!). They offer profound developmental benefits that directly support our students' learning and well-being.
The Benefits of Swinging
Sensory Regulation
The rhythmic movement of swinging helps students regulate their sensory systems, supporting focus and attention. For many of our students, this vestibular input is essential for classroom success.
Physical Development
Swinging strengthens core muscles, improves posture, and develops balance, spatial awareness, and coordination—foundational skills for everything from handwriting to sports.
Outdoor Connection
Swings encourage outdoor time, supporting our No Child Left Indoors philosophy and giving students more reasons to embrace nature and play outside.
Emotional Well-Being
The simple joy of swinging creates positive childhood memories and provides a healthy outlet for energy and emotions. Every child deserves these moments of pure happiness.
Our Fundraising Goals
We've designed our campaign with three levels of impact. Our primary goal is $20,000, but if we exceed that goal, we can expand our outdoor play space even further!
This is our primary goal—bringing swings to Radcliffe Creek for the very first time!
With $20,000, we will install a complete swing set including:
- A metal structure with 4 swing bays (8 swings total)
- Safety mulch surfacing for cushioned landings
- Swing mats for accessibility and safety
- Protective barriers around the swing area
- Professional delivery and installation by certified installers
- All required safety certifications and inspections
This investment ensures that every student at Radcliffe Creek will have access to the sensory and developmental benefits of swinging for years to come.
If we exceed our primary goal, we can expand active play opportunities!
Everything in Level 1, PLUS:
- New basketball hoops for the court
- Additional active play opportunities for students of all ages
- More ways for students to move and engage during recess and outdoor time
- Enhanced team sports and cooperative play options
Basketball hoops complement our swings by providing another avenue for physical activity, teamwork, and outdoor engagement. Students will have even more choices for how they spend their outdoor time.
This is our complete vision—transforming our outdoor space into a true learning and community environment!
Everything in Levels 1 & 2, PLUS:
- Two octagonal picnic tables (seating 10 students each)
- Outdoor classroom opportunities for lessons in nature
- Community gathering spaces for outdoor lunch and social time
- Enhanced outdoor learning environment supporting our educational philosophy
Picnic tables create spaces for outdoor learning, collaborative projects, lunch in the fresh air, and community building. They transform our playground into a multifunctional outdoor classroom that supports academics, social connections, and our commitment to outdoor education.
Every gift matters! Whether you give $25, $250, or $2,500—every single donation brings us closer to these goals and makes a lasting difference for our students.
