DAY IN THE LIFE

There is no typical day in the life at Radcliffe Creek because each schedule is tailored to the individual student. Students spend their days in a variety of classes, with focus being paid to those areas that need specialized attention.

If we have two second grade students, one of whom has strong phonological processing and awareness and the other who has no phonemic awareness and has poor fluency, we will use two different reading approaches: Orton-Gillingham for the one with poor phonemic processing and the other student will be in a grade-level appropriate basal reading class which strives to teach the six kinds of syllables and spelling rules.   We are fortunate at Radcliffe to be able to do this. Classes are small as a result.

The weaker reader may be really strong at science, and he will still go to a Discovery classroom with his classmates and explore magnetism and electricity by building circuits and formulating a hypothesis about positive and negative energy.  Scheduling like this creates an opportunity for child to demonstrate an area of expertise that he may have which in turn offers him a way to build better self-esteem.
