Program Description:
The Choptank Tolomato Legacy Project will continue its Rural Mural programming at Radcliffe Creek School, leading children from the local community to create a 4’ x 12’ mural featuring the Chester River Watershed. No experience is necessary.
The STREAM-based Rural Mural Program will utilize environmental science, satellite technology, the Orton-Gillingham Reading methodology, cartography, and geometry to create a work of art illustrating legends & lore - and environmental concerns - along the river from its source in rural Delaware to Rock Hall where the river meets the Bay.
Through the study of maps, charts, photographs, and artwork created by artists, explorers, and naturalists from the past, students will learn to paint imagery of endangered and invasive species, Indigenous cultures, and the local maritime history of the Chester River as they participate in a hands-on, meaningful and creative experience designed to hone their cultural literacy of the unique region we call home.
