Radcliffe Creek School, a K–8 school serving bright students with language-based learning differences, is seeking a creative, student-centered Art Teacher to lead and grow a dynamic, multi-sensory visual arts program for all students.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to design a multi-year, developmentally appropriate art curriculum that evolves with our students and reflects the unique ways they learn, through movement, creativity, exploration, and hands-on experience.
At Radcliffe Creek School, we provide a strengths-based, personalized learning environment for students with diverse learning profiles. Guided by our core pillars — growth mindset, care and connection, personalized experience, multi-sensory instruction, and genuine feedback — we are committed to helping students build confidence, develop self-regulation, and discover their strengths as learners and individuals.
This is a place where art is not about perfection; it is about possibility. It is where students who may struggle in traditional spaces find their voice, their confidence, and their joy. If you believe in the power of creativity to unlock potential, this is a place where your work will matter every single day.
Position Overview
The Art Teacher works with students in grades K–8, designing and implementing a multi-year curricular rotation that introduces a wide range of artistic media, techniques, and concepts. This role offers both structure and creative autonomy and the opportunity to build a cohesive program while tailoring instruction to meet students where they are.
At Radcliffe, the arts are not an "extra"; they are essential. For our students, art provides an entry point into learning that is often more accessible than traditional academic pathways. It builds confidence, supports fine motor development, strengthens executive functioning, and offers a powerful means of expression for students who may struggle to communicate through language alone. The art room is a place where students can take risks, experience success, and see themselves as capable creators.
This position also invites the teacher to extend learning beyond the classroom walls. With a beautiful 9-acre campus and our No Child Left Inside (NCLI) program, there are abundant opportunities to bring art outdoors, such as drawing from nature, creating with natural materials, studying light and landscape, and connecting artistic expression to the unique environment of Maryland's Eastern Shore.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement a multi-year K–8 visual arts curriculum
- Teach a range of artistic media and techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media
- Integrate multi-sensory approaches and hands-on experiences into all lessons
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning profiles, including students with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences
- Incorporate outdoor and nature-based art experiences through NCLI and use of the campus
- Foster creativity, risk-taking, and a positive studio environment
- Collaborate with faculty to connect art to interdisciplinary learning when appropriate
- Display and celebrate student work in meaningful ways
- Assess student growth through authentic, process-based feedback
Ideal Candidate Will Be
- Creative, flexible, and energized by working with students who learn differently
- Experienced in visual arts instruction across a range of ages and abilities
- Excited to design curriculum and bring new ideas to life
- Comfortable balancing structure and autonomy in program development
- Skilled at creating a studio environment that is both joyful and well-managed
- Interested in outdoor learning and integrating nature into artistic experiences
- Collaborative, reflective, and grounded in a growth mindset
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; degree in Art Education or related field preferred
- Teaching experience with elementary and/or middle school students
- Experience working with students with learning differences strongly preferred
