Radcliffe Creek & Optimum Therapy: Supporting Growth, One Skill at a Time
Radcliffe Creek School, in partnership with Optimum Therapy, provide dedicated Occupational Therapy (OT) services directly to our campus two days a week. Occupational Therapy helps students develop and refine skills needed for everyday activities and academic success. At Radcliffe, our OTs will focus on helping students manage and organize their daily activities to foster learning. The program utilizes a collaborative, play-based, and child-led approach, recognizing that children learn best when engaged in activities that are meaningful and enjoyable for them.
Benefits of Occupational Therapy for Our Students
Occupational therapy can be particularly beneficial for students with learning differences by addressing a range of needs that impact their success in school and daily life.
- Enhancing Fine and Gross Motor Skills: OTs help students improve the dexterity and coordination needed for tasks like handwriting, using scissors, or participating in physical education.
- Supporting Sensory Processing Needs: OT addresses challenges in how students process sensory information (touch, sound, movement, etc.) which can impact focus and behavior. Sensory integration therapy can help students regulate their responses to sensory input, using techniques like deep pressure activities or movement-based exercises.
- Improving Attention and Focus: Occupational therapy interventions, including the use of structured routines, movement breaks, and sensory tools, can help students with ADHD and other attention-related difficulties improve their focus and participation in the classroom.
- Developing Self-Regulation and Emotional Skills: OTs help children build self-awareness and coping mechanisms to manage frustration, adapt to changes, and engage in social interactions more effectively.
- Building Executive Functioning Skills: Occupational therapists work on skills like attention, flexible thinking, working memory, motor planning, and self-control to help students plan, prioritize, and manage their daily tasks and academic assignments.
