This morning, I had the great privilege of welcoming students, faculty, trustees, alumni, families, and friends to our 29th annual Remembrance Day at Radcliffe Creek School. It was a powerful and emotional celebration of our community and, most importantly, of the six wonderful members of the Class of 2025.
As I looked out at the faces gathered in our Great Room, I was filled with gratitude—for your presence, your support, and your belief in what makes Radcliffe such a special place. We began by recognizing the many people who help make our school thrive: our trustees who volunteer their time and wisdom; alumni and former staff who carry Radcliffe in their hearts; and the members of our PTC who bring joy and energy to everything from breakfasts to bingo nights.
I was especially grateful to Donna Coll for her ongoing support of teh PTC and our upcoming leadership transition, and Amanda Spry, whose creative magic has made so many events memorable. It was also a joy to share a few school updates with the gathering, including our recent Green School certification from the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education and the progress on our new Makerspace renovation—thanks to the Gorn Foundation and to the craftsmanship of Skip Bushby. These projects reflect our continued commitment to innovation, hands-on learning, and care for the world around us.
Of course, the heart of today’s ceremony belonged to our graduates. I was honored to share some personal words about each of them as they crossed the stage, and to witness the support and pride in the room. Whether they’ve been here for one year or five, these students have made a lasting impact through their kindness, creativity, sense of humor, and resilience. I encouraged them to take the tools and values they’ve gained here with them into the wider world—and to stay in touch with us as they continue their journeys.
We presented six different awards to both Nest and Marsh students, and we were also fortunate to hear from five student speakers, whose heartfelt reflections reminded us all of the transformative power of belonging and being seen. Their words were thoughtful, honest, and full of promise.
As I will conclude my time as Interim Head of School on June 30, I want to thank you for allowing me to be part of this remarkable community and for the lovely tribute. It has been a true gift to walk alongside your children and our dedicated faculty these past three years. Today was a beautiful reminder of why Radcliffe matters—and why I will always carry it with me.
Warmly,
Peter Thayer
Head of School
