Dr. Alan Austen

Dr. Austen brings a wealth of expertise in school administration and his background in private schools will help to guide Radcliffe Creek School’s strategic plan.


Dr. Austen currently lives in Chestertown, MD, and has been living here since his recent retirement from his position as Head of School for the Commonwealth-Parkville School in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Prior to his most recent Head of School job, he spent eleven years holding positions as Director or Head of School in private schools in Germany, Italy, and Puerto Rico. Dr. Austen held the position of Superintendent of Comsewogue School District for ten years prior to his time out of the United States, and his experience has proven be invaluable for the Radcliffe Creek School Board of Trustees. Dr. Austen has also held a variety of other positions in the field of Education, from Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Personnel for Special Education to Library Chairperson and English Teacher. He holds a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from Columbia University, as well as a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from Hofstra University. Dr. Austen’s educational background also includes a Masters of Arts in English Literature from State University of New York at Stony Brook, a Masters of Science in School Library and Media Information Science from Long Island University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Finance from Adelphi University.
