Jacquelynn Simon

English and Orton-Gillingham Teacher

What is your name and what brought you to (or brought you back) to Radcliffe Creek?

My name is Jacquelynn Simon and I am so excited to be a part of the Radcliffe Creek family! I came back to teaching after some time away to raise my kids and doing some other things including owning a knitting shop, teaching yoga, and working in the financial advising world. It was always my dream to return to the classroom and it is wonderful to see that dream come true! The culture of Radcliffe and the care and attention we give to every child is what pulled me in and made me want to be here! I am so lucky that I get to teach every child at RCS!

What made you want to be a teacher? Do you have a favorite part of your job?

I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was in the first grade. My teacher was the best influence and instilled in me a love of learning AND a love of teaching. All through elementary school, she welcomed me into her classroom to help her prep for her days, to help with small groups when my teachers would allow it. Teaching is what i was meant to do! My favorite part of my job is learning just what works to inspire each child I teach...they are all so different! It's simply amazing to watch a child light up when they learn something new.

Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?

I grew up in North Carolina and Delaware and raised my family in Chester County, PA. I live in Rock Hall, Maryland now!

Where did you go to school and what is your degree in?

I went to the University of Delaware and I have a Bachelors Degree in Elementary and Special Education and a Masters of Education in Language, Literacy and Learning.

What do you like to do when you're not at school or grading papers?

Oh boy! So many things! My favorite thing is to spend time with my family, We love to play games and have fire pit nights. I also love to paddle board and kayak off the beach in Rock Hall. I love to compete in triathlons and run marathons! I am a potter and a knitter as well.

Do you have an accomplishment (professional or personal) that you are particularly proud of?

Coming back to teaching after being away and finding out that I still know just what to do! :)

What is your favorite book, movie, album or TV show (or one of each):

I don't have favorites of anything, that might be strange, but it's true! I kind of wish I did, though.

I love cliff jumping!
